Understand Crop Production and Management for CBSE Class 8

The same kinds of plants grown and cultivated at a place constitute a crop. In India, based on seasons crops can be broadly categorized into two types, rabi and Kharif crops. To provide adequate food to the growing population, we need to adopt certain agricultural practices.

We are aware that all living organisms like green plants and animals need food for survival. The green plants prepare their food by the process of photosynthesis through sunlight while animals obtain their food directly or indirectly from plants. So, now the question comes- how humans get their food? Where do they get their food from or how do they meet their requirements? Humans grow plants crops and rear animals to meet their daily requirements. But as, the population is increasing day by day; food requirement is also increasing along with it. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the quantity of food produced to fulfil the increasing demand. The food requirement is achieved by farming more land, increasing food production and by managing the production and distribution of food. Only agriculture makes possible to sustain a huge population at one time.
